The federal government has announced two public Ashura holidays on July 16 and 17 to mark the 9th and 10th Muharram, respectively.
Every year two holidays are given to Muslims on the occasion of 9 and 10 Muharram.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated,
“the Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 16 and 17 July 2024 (Tuesday & Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 AH).”

Muslims across the world observe the religious occasion with sorrow grief and sorrow.
During Muharram, the government has also approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAF) in Pakistan as a security measure.
The interior ministry notification states that the details of troop deployment will be finalized with the concerned authorities (government of Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad).

Moreover, the notification added, “The date of de-requisitioning of said deployment will be decided subsequently after mutual consultation among all stakeholders.”
The provincial governments, including Punjab, have requested the federal government the suspend social media platforms for 1 week.
However, the federal government has not taken any decision yet to shut down the internet services during Muharram. Any decision in this regard will be taken with the consultation of provinces, as per a statement given by the Ministry of Interior.
