On Sunday, Punjab had the greatest number of dengue fever cases in a single day this year, with 385 new patients documented in the state in the previous 24 hours. Of these 385, Lahore has 186 new dengue patients.
According to Irshad Ahmed, Secretary of the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), 152 new dengue cases were detected in Punjab on Monday. He stated that 3,437 dengue virus cases have been registered so far this year, with four individuals dying as a result of the illness.
The situation is worse in the three most populated divisions’ urban centers, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala. Cities’ hospitals are seeing an increase in the number of individuals being treated in dengue wards.
According to a statement on Monday, 71 dengue cases were reported in Rawalpindi, 47 in Lahore, 12 in Gujranwala, three each in Kasur, Vehari, and Sheikhupura, two each in Multan, Narowal, and Sahiwal, and one each in Rajanpur, Layyah, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Chakwal, Nankana Sahib, and Sialkot in the previous 24 hours.
According to the most recent official statistics, the Punjab administration is powerless to stop the spread of dengue disease. Despite preventative measures, officials from the primary and secondary healthcare departments look dissatisfied with the ever-increasing number of patients.
Health authorities have requested the declaration of an emergency to address the fast-rising number of dengue fever patients being treated at the province’s hospitals.
In such a state of emergency, online appointment booking facilities like the Marham app can be a great solution for people in remote and flood-affected areas.
According to the secretary of the P&SHD, 816 persons are being attended at various hospitals around the province. The anti-dengue team searched for dengue larvae in 266,594 indoor and 75,780 outdoor areas in the previous 24 hours.
A senior official from the health department reported the following an interview:
“We received the highest number of patients in a single day in Punjab today. As many as 385 dengue patients were brought to various government and private hospitals in Punjab. Lahore also recorded the year’s highest number of patients in a day as 186 new patients were confirmed in the hospitals.”
He further added:
“We are seeing a continuously increasing ratio of dengue cases since last week. The province recorded 229 patients with dengue fever on September 21, 196 patients on the 22nd, 272 on 23rd, 226 on the 24th, and today the number rose to 385. The record proves that the situation is now out of control and there is a need for the authorities in Punjab to review their strategy and arrangements, especially the dengue surveillance plan.”
To address the growing number of dengue fever patients, the Punjab Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department has selected 14 health institutions in the Rawalpindi region to provide free dengue testing and treatment.
The facility would be available at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Saddar, Bilal hospital, Bashrat hospital, Jehlum road, Railways hospital, Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals in Gujjar Khan, Holy Family Hospital, District Headquarters Hospital, Al-Ehsan hospital, Murree, Kalar Syeda and Taxila, Wah General Hospital, Quaid e Azam International Hospital, and Wateem General Hospital, Islamabad, according to the list issued.
According to CDC, the symptoms of severe dengue patients include Vomiting (at least 3 times in 24 hours), bleeding from the nose and gums, passing blood in the stool, and feeling extremely tired.
